Current Threats

(January 24 2006) There is a new virus threat, which has been quietly building over the past few weeks: This one, commonly labelled blackworm, or nyxem has a very destructive load, which is scheduled to activate on infected systems on the third of each month!
 

The first action you should take, is insure that your anti-virus program & detection rules are up to date.  If the program will not run, or the 'guard' function will not turn on, it is possible that the virus is already installed.

To avoid the effects of the destructive payload - among other things, all windows office data files (doc, xls, pps, etc.) will be deleted by replacing all contents with 'dummy' text- you must fix up your system and remove the virus before the 3rd of the month!
